About

How’d you get your start?

People have often asked how I started content creation, specifically, food-content. To be honest, I sort of just gravitated towards it naturally. I went to college, got a corporate job (still have one), and basically did all the things society tells us we should be doing once we hit adulthood. In full transparency though, it wasn’t until the pandemic hit and took the world by storm that I actually started recording myself cooking and posting it online for viewers to see. Prior to the pandemic I’d often cook random things I craved, or even found online and wanted to try at home with my family. A few friends of mine caught wind of that and mentioned that I should start posting what I make online since I enjoy cooking so much. I took their advice and started recording myself on TikTok. After a few months of posting, I finally started to gain some traction from viewers, but everything really took off when I posted a re-creation of Disney Worlds Grilled Cheese Sandwich. In all of about 24 hours the video racked up over a million views. Who would have thought that my friends suggestions would have lead me here, not me, that’s for sure.

COOKING SHOULDN’T BE CHALLENGING. IN FACT, IT ISN’T. AS LONG AS YOU HAVE PATIENCE IT WILL ALWAYS BE REWARDING IN THE END.

Many of my recipes are self-taught!

A lot of people think that recipes are all based on tradition. Truthfully, many recipes have been passed down from generation to generation in many households. However, in mine, that has not always been the case. Yes, I have recipes in my repertoire that have been in my family for generations, but a lot of the recipes I have curated over the years are recipes that I have created myself through trial and error, and through research online. You see, I often tell people the internet is your friend (with all its faults and drawbacks) there is just so much to be gained from it, and that my friend, is knowledge.

It would be untruthful to say that I haven’t been nervous attempting to make dishes from different cultures that I didn’t personally grow up eating at home. However, I’m glad that I’ve trusted myself enough to attempt to re-create and curate dishes, and you should too.

Cooking brings people together, cooking is an escape, cooking is an art.

If you asked me what’s one lesson a person should learn in life I’d undeniably say, “learn to cook.” It’s a must! The old saying goes if you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, but if you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime. I believe I read somewhere that 30 percent of Americans don’t know how to cook. Can you believe that? A startling 30 percent, and I’m sure that number will continue to grow. In all honesty, I would argue that the percentage is largely based on our public education system.  The vast majority of schools across the nation have removed classes like home-economics, and various other life-skill courses.

So much of society teaches us to become consumers. I guess to a certain degree you will become a consumer one way or another, but why outsource the very thing that’s supposed to help you stay alive, food. I often find that ordering takeout, or dining in restaurants can lead to unexpected pounds on the scale, and eventually, dents in your pockets. When you cook your own food, you know exactly what ingredients go into it, so you’ll know if it’s healthy, or not. Moreover, your homecooked dish will taste a lot better because you’re in control of the seasonings so it’s prepared to your taste buds.

Although unsolicited, my advice would be to take a moment to appreciate the process next time you’re in the kitchen. Understand the purpose ingredients serve, and be sure not to allow yourself to become overwhelmed. When I first started out, the Food Network, and Google were the two sources of truth I used to learn different cooking techniques, and terminology (and I’m still always learning). You’ll find that my recipes are simple, and easy to follow. Remember, a dish is only as complicated as you make it, love, time, and patience always goes a long way.
